This new and updated NEC4 Engineering and Construction Contract (ECC) embraces the new procurement changes that are happening in the construction industry, especially around BIM and supply chain management.

This is the main contract for the appointment of a contractor to carry out engineering and construction works, which may also include any design responsibility.

This is the core contract document containing all the core clauses and secondary option clauses, together with the schedules of cost components and forms for contract data.

There are six main options to choose from: Option A Priced Contract with Activity Schedule, Option B Priced Contract with Bill of Quantities, Option C Target Contract with Activity Schedule, Option D Target Contract with Bill of Quantities, Option E Cost Reimbursable Contract, Option F Management Contract.

Enhancements to the contract include finalising cost elements during the contract, incorporating a party-led dispute avoidance procedure into the adjudication process, increased standardisation between contracts and providing enhanced guidance to give greater practical advice to users.

There is also a short contract version of the contract available for less sophisticated projects, also a subcontract, and how to guides on Preparing a Contract, Managing a Contract, along with Selecting a Supplier, and Establishing a Procurement and Contract Strategy to help users get the most out of the contract.
